[해외유머] '만원 지옥'

A small opera company was playing Faust in the provinces, with poorequipment and make-do scenery. At eht point in the opera when Mephistopheles descends to the under-world-through a trapdoor in the stage-the trapdoor became stuck, andpoor Mephistopheles could neither get in or out of it. the audience''s tension was broken by a voice from the gallery, "My God,hell''s full up!"----------------------------------------------------------------------- Faust : 파우스트(괴테작 비극) in the provinces : 지방에서 make-do : 임시변통의 scenery : 무대장치 Mephistopheles : 메피스토펠레스(중세의 파우스트 전설에 등장하는 악마의 하나) descend to the underworld : 지옥으로 떨어지다 trapdoor : 뚜껑문 gallery : (극장의) 최상층관람석 full up : (구어) 꼭 차서, 만원으로----------------------------------------------------------------------- 작은 오페라단이 지방을 돌면서 파우스트를 공연하고 있었는데 변변치 못한소도구들을 사용하고 있는데다 무대장치도 임시변통으로 마련하고 있었다. 오페라의 한 장면에서는 메피스토펠레스가 뚜껑문을 통해 지옥으로 떨어지기로 되어있었는데, 뚜껑문이 꼭 끼어 버리는 바람에 가엽게도 메피스토펠레스가 오도가도 못하는 상황이 벌어졌다. 조마조마하는 관객들의 긴장상태를 풀어준것은 뒤편 좌석에서 누군가가한 한마디였다.
