The government has decided to strengthen its enforcement of violations
of intellectual property right laws in a move to avoid being named by
the U.S. as a priority foreign country in the intellectual property
sector this April.
The decision was adopted by the intellectual property measures team
at its meeting on Jan. 16 chaired by Kim Chol-su, first assistant
minister of trade and industry.
The meeting decided to promote the legislation of the Semiconductor
Design Protection Law to protect new intellectual property, including
semiconductor chips.
It was also decided to step up administrative guidance to eliminate
unauthorized copying of books and computer software.
The government will revise the laws related to protection of
intellectual property rights and will strengthen penalties for those who
violate the laws.
