Yet, the more fiercely determined to say something, the more at
a loss he found himself for the words to smooth out the situation.

At that awkward moment, he heard the cawing of a crow in the
garden.

Looking up at the bird, he was certain that it had appeared to
rescue him out of the predicament, and with delight inquired of the
widow:

"I see you have a crow in the garden. Do you breed them?"

그런데 뭔가 한마디해야겠다는 생각으로 초조해질수록 그 고비를 넘기기
위한 말은 도무지 떠오르지를 않았다.

어색하기 이를데 없는 바로 그순간 마당으로부터 까악까악하는 까마귀
소리가 들려왔다.

그 까마귀를 쳐다보자 그는 그것이 그를 궁지에서 살려내기 위해
나타났구나 싶었다.

그래서 신이나서 미망인에게 물었다.

"까마귀가 있군요. 댁에서 키우는 겁니까?"
