The old man in a village had to handle a group of young men who
were jealous of his wisdom and decided to trap him.

The youths planned to show him a bird and ask him whether it was
dead of alive.

If he said it was dead, they would let it fly.

If he said it was alive, they would wring its neck to prove
approached him and asked:

"Old man, is the bird dead of alive?"

"Young man," he said after a long pause, "it is in your hands."

노인은 그의 지혜를 시샘한 나머지 그를 곤경에 빠뜨리기로 작정한 마을
청노년들에 대응해야 했다.

젊은이들은 노인에게 새 한마리를 보여주면서 살았는지 죽었는지를
물어보기로 했다.

만약 죽었다고 한다면 새를 날려보낼 것이고 살았다고 한다면 목을
비틀어 새를 죽일 셈이었다.

그들은 노인에게 다가가서 물었다.

"영감님, 이 새는 죽었습니까 살았습니까?"

"그런 자네 손에 달렸다네" 노인은 한참만에 대답했다.
