The soldier was on the rifle range firing at targets as they came into
view.

Suddenly his rifle jammed, and as he was frantically trying to free
the cartridge a target popped up.

Thinking he was unable to free his weapon before the target disappeared
he snatched up a clod of dirt and hurled it at the target.

The clod struck the target, sending it down in a shower of dirt.

Later, the captain marking the soldier''s score noticed a note
concerning the target.

"It seems you had a little trouble," he said.

"An enemy soldier appeared at close range and my rifle jammed, sir,"
he explained.

"I threw a hand grenade and eliminated him."

"Very good," said the captain scoring the target as a hit.

그 군인은 소총사격장에서 이동표적에 사격하고 있었다.

그런데 갑자기 총이 말을 듣지 않아 탄창을 빼려고 기를 쓰고 있는데
표적이 불쑥 나타났다.

표적이 사라지기 전에 총을 손 볼 수 없겠다고 생각한 그는 재빨리 흙덩어리
를 집어들고는 표적에 내던졌다.

그것이 명중하여 흙세례를 받은 표적은 아래로 사라졌다.

나중에 사격점수를 매기던 대위는 표적에 관한 메모사항을 보고는 "자네
문제가 좀 있었던가보군"이라고 했다.

"적병이 근거리에 나타났는데 제 총이 말을 듣지 않아 수류탄을 투척하여
적병을 해치웠습니다"라고 그는 설명했다.

대위는 "아주 잘 했어"라면서 사격이 명중한 것으로 해줬다.
