[해외유머] '피고의 간계'

A defendant in a lawsuit involving large sums of money said to his
lawyer, "Would it help if I sent the judge a box of cigars?"

"Oh no!" said the lawyer.

"This judge is a stickler for ethical behavior.

A student like that would prejudice him against you.

"You shouldn''t even smile at the judge."

The judge rendered a decision in favor of the defendant.

As the defendant left the courthouse, he said to his lawyer, "Thanks
for the tip about the cigars. It worked."

"I''m sure we would have lost the case if you''d sent them," said the
lawyer.

"But I did send them, That''s how we won the case. I sent the cheapest
cigars, but enclose the plaintiff''s business card."

큰돈이 걸린 소송의 피고는 변호사를 보고 "판사한테 시거를 선사하면 좋지
않을까요?"하고 물었다.

"천만에. 이 판사는 까다롭게 윤리를 찾는 사람이라구요. 그런짓 했다간
당신한테 좋지 않은 선입견을 갖게 될 겁니다. 이 판사를 보고는 웃는 척도
하지 말아요"

판결은 피고에게 유리하게 나왔다.

법정을 나서면서 피고는 "시거에 대한 충고 고마워요. 그말 맞더라구요"라고
변호사에게 말했다.

"시거를 선사했더라면 필시 패소했을거라구요"라고 변호사가 말하자 피고의
말은 이러했다.

"하지만 선사했는걸요. 그래서 승소하게 된거구요. 싸구려 시거에 원고의
명함을 넣어서 보냈답니다"
