구안옹 < 푸르덴셜자산운용 대표 guan．ong@prucyber．com > 아직 보지는 못했지만 명성을 익히 들은 바 있는 드라마 '겨울연가'의 배경인 남이섬에 다녀왔다. 아시아 각지에서 한국 영화와 드라마가 많은 인기를 끌고 있어서인지 친구들은 내가 '겨울연가'를 못 봤다든가,남이섬에 안 가봤다고 말하면 어이없어 했다. 남이섬의 아름다운 전경을 보면서 일상생활에 파묻혀 자연의 아름다움을 만끽할 여유도 없이 '빨리빨리' 살아가고 있다는 생각을 문득 했다. 특히 도심의 콘크리트 정글 속에서 바쁘게 일하며 지내다 보면 정신을 풍요롭게 할 여유를 갖기 어렵다. 직장에서 성공하기 위해 우리는 많은 일들을 '빨리빨리' 해야 한다. 그러나 개인생활로 돌아가면 종종 짬을 내 '장미 향기를 맡아 보는' 여유가 필요하다. 인생의 큰 그림을 추구하면서도 삶의 질을 높일 수 있도록 균형을 잘 잡아야 한다. 최근 중국에서 한 TV 프로그램을 봤다. 중국의 어느 도시에 있는 쇼핑몰에서 청소년과 그들의 힙합문화 및 패션에 대한 인터뷰를 하고 있었다. 아이들은 너무 커보이는 옷에 느슨한 바지,길게 늘어진 목걸이 장식을 하고 있었다. 한국에 돌아와서 TV를 켰을 때 나는 화면 속에서 비슷한 힙합 팝문화를 볼 수 있었다. 물론 힙합을 즐기는 이 아이들과 나는 최소한 한 세대 정도 차이가 난다. 하지만 같은 동양의 아이들이 힙합 스타일로 행동하며 길거리를 걷는 모습을 보고 힙합의 근원을 생각해 볼 때 팝미디어의 위력이 얼마나 대단한지 새삼 느꼈다. 향후 10~20년 후에 한국,인도,중국 영화들이 계속해서 인기를 얻는다고 가정해 보자.뉴욕,런던,파리의 십대들이 한복 또는 중국식 의상을 창의적인 팝 문화로 소화해 입는 모습을 상상해 보라.얼마나 기분 좋은 일이겠는가. 상상의 나래만 편다면 미래가 우리에게 줄 수 있는 가능성은 무한하다. 등산을 하더라도 '빨리빨리'를 외치며 산을 오르기보다는 잠시 차 한잔의 여유를 즐기며 우리 주변을 둘러싸고 있는 아름다운 대자연을 감상하고 일과 삶에서 균형을 찾을 수 있도록 하자.그리고 우리를 기다리고 있을 미래에 대해 생각해 보자. ------------------------------------------------------------------ Palli，Palli and pop culture！ I finally visited Nami island last week though I have not yet seen the TV drama， Winter Sonata. Due to the high popularity of Korean movies and dramas in many parts of Asia， some of my friends are often dismayed that I work in Korea and I have not visited Nami island nor seen the drama. The beauty of Nami island reminds me on how often I have not taken the time to appreciate the beauty of nature and about the "palli， palli" nature of our lives， especially when we work in offices located in a city， the concrete jungle. We often forget to take time out to replenish the "soul" in us. We do things "palli， palli" to get things done because we want to win in our business world. In our personal lives we must often take a moment to "smell the roses". In our business lives， we must spend sometime to see the broader impact of our actions. Hopefully， we can achieve a balance with both lives. Recently， I was watching a television programme in China. The commentator was in a shopping mall in a Chinese city， interviewing young kids about their "hip hop" culture， behaviour and fashion. The kids appear wearing clothes that were too big， trousers that were too loose， and jewelry that were too long！！ When I was back in Seoul， there was also the similar "hip hop" pop culture on the TV！ Same oriental kids doing their stuff， strutting their walk the "hip hop" style！ I realize there is at least a generation gap between the "hip hop" kids and myself， but when you think about the origins of "hip hop"， then it truly shows the power of pop media. Now， let us assume that the Korean or Chinese movies continue to increase in popularity for the next ten or twenty years， would it not be amusing if we see the kids in New York， London or Paris wear the hanbok or Mao outfits in a creative pop culture way！ We will only be limited by our imagination in what the future could show us！！ So remember， don't just go and climb a mountain "palli， palli"， but stop for a cup of tea to appreciate our environment， the balance in our lives and the future that awaits us.
