An English man, a Welshman and a Scotsman were left legacies by a friend on condition that each should put 5 pounds in his coffin．

The Englishman put a 5-pound note in the coffin．

The Welshman also put in 5 pounds which he had borrowed from the Englishman．

The Scotsman took the two 5-pound notes out of the coffin and put in a cheque for 15 pounds， payable to bearer．

Three days later he was astonished to learn that the cheque had been presented and cashed．

The undertaker was an Irish．

잉글랜드인은 5파운드 지폐를 관속에 넣었다．

웨일즈인은 잉글랜드인으로부터 5파운드를 꿔서 관속에 넣었다．

스코틀랜드인은 관속에 들어있는 5파운드 지폐 두 장을 집어내고 그 대신 지참인에게 지불되는 액면 15파운드의 수표를 집어넣었다．

사흘 후 이 수표를 현금으로 바꿔간 사람이 있다는 사실을 알게 된 스코틀랜드인은 여간 놀라지를 않았다．

장의사주인은 아일랜드인이었다．
