The painter agreed beforehand for the price of picutre he was to draw for a rich man,who was not indebted to nature either for his shape or face. The picture being finished,the wealthy man tried to beat down the price,alleging that if he did not purchase it,no one else would care to have it. "That's you mistake," said the painter,"for I can sell it at double the price I demand." "How can that be?"said the billionaire.

"I'll draw a tail to it,and then it'll be an excellent monkey."

The rich man paid down the momey the painter demanded,and carried off the picture.


체격이나 용모로는 타고난 것이라고는 없는 볼품없는 갑부의 초상화를 그리게 된 화가는 미리 받을 값을 정했다．

그런데 그림이 완성되자 부자는 그가 아니면 그 그림을 살 사람이 누가 있겠냐면서 값을 깎으려들었다．

그러자 화가가 말했다．

"잘못 알고 계시는군요．딴 사람에게 팔면 곱절로 받아낼 수 있습니다."

"어떻게 그럴 수 있단 말이오？"

"여기다가 꼬랑지만 그려 넣으면 기찬 원숭이 그림이 되거든요."

부자는 요구 받은 금액을 다주고 그림을 받아갔다．
