A sedate English literary man was interviewed by reporters on his arrival in New York．

He remembered that he had been warned before leaving London that American reporters would probably try to make a fool of him．

"Are you going to visit any night clubs during you stay in New York？" was the first question asked．

"Are there any night clubs in New York？" parried the man from London．

The next day he opened his morning paper to an account of the interview．

It said the visiting literary man was so curious about New York‘s night life that the first question he had asked stepping down the ramp was； "Are there any night clubs in New York?"


점잖은 영국 문인이 뉴욕에 도착하자 기자들에게 둘러싸였다．

미국기자들이 극성스러워 그들에게 농락당하기 쉽다는 충고를 떠나기 전에 받았던 게 생각났다．

"뉴욕에 머무시는 동안 어디 나이트클럽에 가보실건가요？"라는 게 그가 받은 첫 질문이었다．

"뉴욕에 어디 나이트클럽이 있는가요？"라는 반문으로 그는 답변을 피했다．

이튿날 조간신문을 펼친 그는 인터뷰 기사를 찾아봤다．

그는 뉴욕의 밤 환락가에 어찌나 호기심이 많은지 비행기에서 내리자마자 첫마디가 "뉴욕에 어디 나이트클럽이 있는가요？"라는 질문이었단다．
