An elderly gentleman of 83 arrived in Paris by plane． At the customs desk， the man took a few minutes to locate his passport in his bag．

"You have not been to France before, monsieur？" the customs officer asked．

The elderly gentleman said he had been to France previously．

"Then you should know to have your passport ready. "

The American said, "The last time I was here， I didn’t have to show it." "Impossible． Americans have to show their passports on arrival in France！"

The American sarcastically explained．

"Well， when I came ashore at Omaha Beach in 1944 to help liberate this country， I couldn‘t find any Frenchmen to show it to."


83세 된 미국인 할아버지가 항공편으로 파리에 도착했다. 세관원에게 여권을 내보이려고 가방을 한참 뒤져 그걸 찾아냈다.

"프랑스엔 처음 오시나 보군요？"하고 세관원은 물었다. 그런데 노인은 전에 와본 적이 있단다. "그럼 여권을 내보일 준비가 돼있어야 한다는 걸 아실 텐데요…."

"지난 번 왔을 땐 여권을 내보일 필요가 없더라고요. " "그건 말도 안 됩니다. 미국인은 프랑스에 도착하면 반드시 여권을 제시해야 합니다！"

"있죠，1944년에 이 나라를 해방시켜 주려고 내가 오마하 해변에 상륙했을 땐 그걸 보여줄 프랑스인은 하나도 없었지 뭡니까"라고 노인은 빈정거렸다.
