A new American elementary school was raising the American flag for the first time. To make the day special， the school invited a Marine Corps color guard to come out and perform the duty for them. The day before the ceremony， the Marine in charge of the unit called to confirm directions to the school. After doing so he was asked by the school official whether he was sending Marines who like children. There was a brief pause before the man replied， "Ma'am， if I tell them to like children， they will like children."


새로 생긴 미국의 한 초등학교가 처음으로 국기를 게양하게 되었다. 학교 당국은 그 일을 특별 행사로 치르기로 하고 해병대에 위장대를 보내 그 행사를 치러달라고 부탁했다. 행사 전날 해병대 대장이 학교 위치를 파악하기 위해 전화를 걸어왔다. 위치 확인이 끝나자 학교 관계자는 해병대 사람에게 아이들을 좋아하는 대원들을 보내줄 거냐고 물었다. 위장대장은 잠시 머뭇거리더니 "대원들보고 아이들을 좋아하라고 명령하면 그렇게들 합니다"라고 대답하는 것이었다.
