A farmer goes into a farm supply store and orders 200 chicks， explaining that he wants to start a chicken farm. Two weeks later， he returns to the store and buys another 200 chicks. When he returns for the fourth time， the owner's curiosity is too much for him， so he asks the farmer why he keeps coming back for more chicks. The farmer says， "Well， I must be doing something wrong….I think I'm either planting them too deep or too close together." Bemused by his lack of success， the farmer sends off a report of what he has done to the local agricultural school， asking for advice. Three weeks later， the reply comes back， saying simply， "Please send soil sample."


농업용품점을 찾은 농부는 양계농장을 해볼 생각이라면서 병아리 200마리를 주문했다. 두 주가 지나 다시 가게에 온 농부는 또 200마리를 사갔다. 그런데 농부가 네 번씩이나 와서 병아리를 사가자 가게 주인은 궁금한 나머지 어째서 마냥 병아리를 사가는 거냐고 물었다.

"그게 있죠，내가 뭔가를 잘못하고 있는 것 같아요….너무 깊이 심고 있거나 너무 빽빽이 심고 있나봐요. "

일이 제대로 안 돼서 곤혹스러워진 농부는 그가 했던 바를 그 고장 농업학교에 알리면서 지도해달라고 했다. 3주가 지나 회신이 왔는데 그저 "토양 견본을 보내줘요"라는 간단한 것이었다.
