A schoolteacher in Russia called on a pupil to tell about life in America.The youngster got up told about American workers being unemployed and starving.Negroes being lynched every day in the South，corruption in all walks of life，crime and drunkenness and dope addiction，and war-mongering and vice.

"And now tell us，what is our slogan？" the teacher asked.

"We must catch up with and surpass the United States，" replied the pupil.


러시아의 초등학교에서 선생님이 한 학생에게 미국인들의 생활에 관해 이야기해 보라고 했다. 그 학생은 일어서더니 미국 노동자들이 실직해서 기아상태에 있고，남부에선 흑인들이 날마다 린치를 당하고 있으며，각계각층이 부패해서 범죄와 음주 및 마약중독이 만연하고 있고,전쟁도발을 비롯한 악덕행위가 판을 치고 있다고 말했다.

"그렇다면 우리는 어떻게 해야 하는지 말해 봐요. " 선생님이 말했다.

"우리는 미국을 따라잡아 앞질러 가야 합니다. " 학생의 대답이었다.
