A surgeon was retiring from his long career as a specialist in circumcision. Throughout his career, he had saved the foreskins of his patients in jars， and now wished to fashion them into a souvenir. So he brought his hundreds of specimens to a leather smith， and asked him to craft an article of fine artistic quality. "I'll see what I can do." said the artisan. "Check back with me in one week."

The surgeon returned one week later， eager to see what magnificent article the leather smith had made for him. The leather smith presented him a wallet.

"All those foreskins and you only make me a wallet?"exclaimed the surgeon.

The leather smith replied， "Yes， but if you stroke it， it becomes a briefcase."


오랫동안 포경수술을 전문으로 해 온 의사가 은퇴하게 됐다. 그동안 환자들로부터 잘라낸 포피를 기념물로 병에 보관해온 그는 그걸로 기념품을 만들고 싶었다. 그래서 몇백 개나 되는 그 포피들을 들고 가죽 세공을 하는 사람을 찾아가 예술적인 세공품을 만들어 달라고 했다. "어디 해 봅시다. 1주일 후에 오시지요. " 얼마나 훌륭한 물건을 만들었을까 궁금했던 그는 가죽공을 찾아갔다. 그런데 그가 내보인 건 지갑이었다. "아니 그 많은 걸 가지고 겨우 지갑 하나를 만들었단 말인가요？" 의사는 놀랐다.

"그렇습니다. 그렇지만 잘 만져주면 가방이 된답니다. "
