In 1990，my spry nonagenarian mother-in-law developed cataracts and went to an eye doctor.After I checked over the forms she had filled out，I told her that her date of birth was off by a year.

"When I saw how young and good-looking the doctor was，" she admired， "I just couldn't write down a date from the last century！"


90대인데도 여전히 생기가 넘치는 장모님이 1990년에 백내장으로 안과 전문의를 찾아갔다. 나는 장모님이 작성한 문서를 살펴본뒤 생일이 1년 늦게 기록된 것을 지적했다. 그랬더니 장모님이 말했다.

"의사가 어찌나 젊고 잘 생겼는지 차마 내가 지난 세기에 태어난 사람이라고 할 수가 없었지 뭐냐！"
