A terrible flood hit a small town. A devotedly religious woman sat down to wait for God to save her. “When the first rescue boat came, she just shook her head and said, “Thank you but my God will save me.” The waters rose and she climbed to the second story of her home to wait for God. A second boat came by, but once again she thanked him and said, “My God will save me.” The waters continued to rise leaving her to stand on her chimney. An emergency helicopter came to save her. Still she refused to go. The waters rose dragging her under. When she got to heaven she said to the Lord, “You said if I followed you, you would always save me. Why didn’t you save me?” “I sent two boats and a helicopter for you. What else did you want?”

작은 고장에 무서운 홍수가 덮쳤다. 신앙이 독실한 여자가 가만히 앉아서 하느님이 와주기를 기다렸다. 구조보트가 왔지만 여자는 사양했다. “고맙지만 나의 하느님이 와주실 거예요.” 수위가 높아지자 여자는 2층으로 올라가 하느님을 기다렸다. 두 번째 구조보트가 다가왔지만 여자는 다시금 사양했다. 수위는 계속 높아져 이제 여자는 굴뚝 위에 올라서야 했다. 그를 구해줄 헬리콥터가 긴급 출동했다. 그런데도 여자는 사양했다. 수위는 계속 높아져 여자를 삼켜버렸다. 천당에 간 여자가 하느님에게 말했다. “순종하면 언제나 구해준다고 하셨잖아요. 그런데 왜 저를 구해주지 않은 거죠?” “보트 두 척에 헬리콥터까지 보내줬잖아! 그 이상 어떻게 해야지?”
