At school, a boy is told by a classmate that most adults are hiding some secrets and that this makes it easy to blackmail them by saying, “I know the whole truth.” The boy decides to try it out. As he is greeted by his mother at the front door he says, “I know the whole truth.” His mother quickly hands him $10 and says, “Don’t tell your dad.” Quite pleased, he wait for his dad to get home from work, and greets him with, “I know the whole truth.” His dad promptly hands him $20 and says, “Please don’t say a word to your mom.” Very satisfied, he is on his way school the next day when he sees the neighborhood baker. The boy greets him by saying, “I know the whole truth.” The man opens his arms and says, “Then come and give your father a hug!”

어른들은 거의 모두가 비밀을 가지고 있으니 “난 다 안다”는 한마디로 쉽게 그들을 협박할 수 있다는 소리를 학교 친구한테서 들은 녀석이 그걸 시험해보기로 마음먹었다. 현관에서 그를 맞아주는 엄마에게 “난 다 알아”라고 했다. 엄마는 얼른 10달러를 건네주면서 “아빠에겐 말하면 안 된다”고 하는 것이었다. 아주 좋아서 녀석은 퇴근하는 아빠를 기다렸다가 “난 다 알아”라고 했다. 아빠는 재빨리 20달러를 꺼내주면서 “제발 엄마한텐 아무 소리 말아야 해”라고 했다. 썩 만족한 녀석은 이튿날 등굣길에 빵가게 주인을 만나자 “난 다 알아요”라고 해봤다. 그러자 빵집 주인은 양팔을 벌리고 “그럼 이리 와서 네 아빠한테 안겨!”라고 하는 것이었다.
