A man took his son fishing one day. After a couple hours in the boat, the son started asking his father some questions. “Dad, how does the boat float?” he asked. The man thought about the question for a moment, hen said, “I don’t really know, son.” “Well, how do fish breathe underwater?” The man scratched his head. “I guess I don’t know the answer to that one either.” “Then, why is the sky blue?” the boy persisted. The father replied, “I really don’t know, son.” The boy started to worry that his father was getting upset at all the questions. “Do you mind me asking questions, Dad?” “No, of course not, son! If you don’t ask questions, you’ll never learn anything!”

아버지는 낚시 나들이에 아들을 데리고 갔다. 배 위에서 두어 시간이 지나자 녀석은 아버지에게 이런저런 질문을 하기 시작했다. “아빠, 배는 왜 떠 있죠?” 잠시 생각하던 아버지가 “그건 영 모르겠구나”라고 대답했다. “그럼 물고기는 물속에서 어떻게 숨을 쉬는데요?” 아버지는 머리를 긁적거렸다. “그것도 모르겠구나.” “그럼 하늘은 왜 푸른지 알아요?” 녀석의 질문은 끈덕지게 계속됐다. “그건 정말 모르겠다.” 그러자 녀석은 자기가 자꾸 질문을 해대서 아빠가 신경이 곤두서는 건가 싶어졌다. “아빠, 내가 이렇게 물어대니 귀찮죠?” “아니다, 아니다. 질문을 해야지, 그러지 않고는 아무것도 배우지를 못한단 말이다.”
