Seoul – The GM Employee Foundation Korea (GEFK) has launched various educational programs aimed at nurturing local youth to become global talent and actively support the development of future industry leaders.

In January, GEFK signed a talent development project agreement with the Incheon City Office of Education and the State University of New York Korea (SUNY Korea). Based on this agreement, the foundation has been providing educational programs for local students to research challenges and solutions for future industry development.

On August 29, GEFK held a research presentation event at the Bupyeong headquarters of GM’s Korean Operations. The event was attended by Brian McMurray, President of the GM Technical Center Korea; Myongok Yoon, Chief of Secretary General of the GEFK; Pyungryun Brian Yu, Vice President for Administration and External Relations at SUNY Korea; officials from the Incheon City Office of Education and SUNY Korea; high school students from Incheon; and GM employees. This event provided an opportunity to recognize and encourage the passion and hard work of the youth who have been conducting research over the past several months.

Brian McMurray said, "I was truly impressed by the level of projects and the high level of technologies that students have already developed, their outstanding research results, problem-solving capabilities, and passion of the local students participating to grow as global talent. As a company leading future mobility, GM considers the development of global talent to be a core value and will continue its efforts to nurture global leaders who will drive cutting-edge future industries."

Pyungryun Brian Yu stated, "It is highly significant that we are conducting this educational program in collaboration with GM and the city of Incheon. SUNY Korea will continue to develop and provide diverse and creative educational support programs in partnership with businesses and educational institutions. We will seek opportunities to support the local community and achieve mutual growth."

The research presentation event featured participation from teachers and students of 10 high schools located in Incheon: Gyesan High School, Songdo High School, Inje High School, Incheon Majeon High School, Incheon Ara High School, Incheon Girls' High School, Incheon Yeonsong High School, Incheon Jaenung High School, Jungseok Aviation Science High School, and Incheon Jinsan Science High School. Through the process of identifying and researching issues facing global industries, the students presented diverse and innovative solutions. Notably, GM employees participated in mentoring sessions, encouraging the youth as they envision their futures.

Since its establishment in 2005, GEFK has carried out various social contribution activities aimed at stabilizing the lives of vulnerable groups in local communities and improving community conditions, in line with GM's key focus on diversity, equity and inclusion. In particular, the foundation actively provides STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) education programs for local students, vigorously supporting initiatives to nurture talent for the automotive industry in the future.
