The Korean-Soviet cooperation in fishing is expected to expand sharplythis year on the Sea of Okhotsk. The Office of Fisheries disclosed that Korean deep-sea fishingcompanies are pushing ahead with plans to join hands with Sovietbusinesses in the aftermath of the U.S.''s drastic reduction of itscompanies'' joint fishing with foreign concerns. As some Korean-Sovietcooperation projects already have been signed and some are now underway, the office predicted that this year''s Alaska pollack catch will reach120,000 tons, 20,000 tons more than last year''s record. The forerunner in the moves, Dongwon Industry, recently signed acontract with Seaprimfico, a joint venture between the Soviet Unionand Vietnam, to secure a quota amounting to 20,000 tons of Alaskapollack for this year. According to the contract, Dongwon will shortlysend two factory vessels to the area.
