Larry's barn burned down and his wife， Mary， called the insurance company. Mary spoke the insurance agent and said， "We had that barn insured for fifty thousand dollars， and I want my money."
The agent replied， "Well， insurance doesn't work quite like that. An independent adjuster will assess the value of what was insured， and then we'll provide you with a new barn of similar worth."There was a long pause， and then Mary replied， "If that's how it works， then I want to cancel the life insurance policy on my husband."
래리 네 헛간이 화재로 타버리자 아내 메리는 보험회사에 전화를 걸었다. "우리가 그 헛간을 위해 계약한 보험금은 5만 달러였는데 그 돈을 받아야겠어요"라고 메리는 보험사 사람에게 말했다.
"있잖아요， 보험은 그런 식으로 운영되는 게 아닙니다. 독자적인 감정사가 보험에 가입한 물건의 가치를 감정한 다음 우리는 그것과 맞먹는 가치의 헛간을 새로 지어드리게 되는 거랍니다. " 보험회사 사람의 설명이었다. 메리는 한참 말이 없다가 대답했다. "그게 그런 식으로 하는 거라면 우리 남편의 생명보험은 해지하고 싶네요. "
