General Motors (“GM”) participated as a sponsor in the '2024 Baja Student Korea' held from August 30 to September 1 at the Saemangeum Auto Racing Park in Gunsan, North Jeolla Province. GM showcased its products and technological prowess to automotive engineering students involved in the competition, spearheading the development of future automotive talent.

This student automotive competition, established in 2007 to cultivate experts for the automotive industry, was jointly organized this year by the Korean Society of Automotive Engineers (“KSAE”) and the Korea Automotive Technology Institute (“KATECH”). Approximately 1,100 automotive engineering students from 46 teams across 33 universities nationwide competed fiercely, exhibiting outstanding performances with self-designed and built vehicles and showcasing technical ideas and designs.

During the event, GM displayed vehicles such as the Chevrolet All-New Colorado and GMC Sierra at the competition site, illustrating the competitive advantages of GM brands and products to attendees. GM also set up a booth to conduct mentoring programs, providing insights into the future automotive industry and engineering capabilities to the participating students.Additionally, approximately 40 GM employees who participated in the event rallied around the competition by engaging directly with students and sharing their engineering expertise and experience. These employees made a significant contribution to ensuring the competition concluded smoothly, which involved assisting with the prompt removal of damaged vehicles to maintain safety during the intense events.

Sunho Ji, Managing Director at GM Korea Technical Center and a member of the organizing committee for Baja Student Korea, remarked, "It was a valuable experience to participate in this event alongside engineering students poised to shape the future of the automotive industry. GM will continue to support collaborations between industry and academia, encouraging students' aspirations and passions, as well as championing the nurturing of future automotive talent."

Meanwhile, GM is pursuing various initiatives aimed at cultivating a talent pipeline that will lead the future mobility industry. Through collaborations with educational institutions, the company is implementing a range of programs. These include STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) education, seminars on new mobility technologies, mentoring sessions, and the development of educational programs aimed at leadership in future industries. Continuing its commitment to nurturing global talent, the company actively forges partnerships with leading domestic universities.ABOUT GENERAL MOTORS
